  • It’s free.
  • It empowers you to take control of your health.
  • It helps protect others.

What is an STD?

STDs (sexually transmitted diseases), commonly referred to as STIs (sexually transmitted infections), are pathogenic infections passed from one person to another through sexual intercourse. These infections can be detrimental to your health and wellness.

What are STD complications?

Many times, STDs can go undetected because they do not cause symptoms. However, this does not mean they don’t cause damage. The Mayo Clinic states that some complications that can arise when STDs go untreated are:

  • Pelvic pain
  • Pregnancy complications
  • Eye inflammation
  • Arthritis
  • Pelvic inflammatory disease
  • Infertility
  • Heart disease
  • Certain cancers, such as HPV-associated cervical and rectal cancers

If symptoms do present, what will they look like?

Symptoms may include:

  • Sores or bumps on the genitals, oral or rectal area
  • Painful urination
  • Penis Discharge
  • Odorous vaginal discharge
  • Unusual vaginal bleeding
  • Painful sex
  • Sore, swollen lymph nodes
  • Abdominal pain
  • Fever
  • Rash on the trunk, hands, or feet

Can STDs be treated at home?

No, STDs are caused by bacteria, viruses, or parasites and need medical evaluation and treatment. STDs cannot be treated with home remedies and will not go away by themselves.
