“Giving up your baby” for adoption was a phrase used decades ago. At that time, mothers sadly handed their children over to strangers and never heard about them again. But all of that has changed.

Now, an expectant mother or birth mother selects the couple who will raise her child. She doesn’t “give up” her baby; she plans for her child’s future. She is in the driver’s seat and makes all the decisions.

The Pregnancy Resource Center is not a child-placing agency, but if you would like more information about the benefits of choosing adoption, schedule an appointment to talk with us.

How Could I Possibly Choose Adoption?

Placing your child for adoption is a difficult choice. Only you know if it is the right decision. No one should manipulate you or coerce you into choosing this option.

You need to select an adoption coordinator who will represent your best interests. Your understanding of the process and your desires for your child should come first.

Although challenging, knowing that you are giving your child a loving, caring two-parent family that you selected makes the process easier. Plus, ongoing emotional counseling, support groups, contact with the adoptive family, and the acceptance of others provide peace of mind.

Do I Have Rights When Choosing Adoption?

You do! You are entitled to the following rights and privileges:

  • To pay nothing for adoption services.
  • To receive thorough adoption counseling before, during, and after the adoption is finalized.
  • To not be coerced or manipulated into choosing adoption.
  • If you wish, select the family who will raise your child.
  • Determine the future you hope your child will have.
  • Receive no-cost pregnancy services, including medical and legal expenses. Other pregnancy-related expenses may also be covered.
  • Determine the amount of contact you want to have with your child and their adoptive family.
  • The right to change your mind until you sign the Consent to Termination of Parental Rights and Adoption papers.
